Senior Process Engineer – Water Industry

If you’re a Senior Process Engineer with strong experience in the UK regulated water industry, this is an opportunity to take ownership of impactful projects while working in a supportive, technically strong consultancy.
You’ll play a key role in delivering process design solutions for major wastewater and clean water projects, while mentoring junior engineers and influencing project direction.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality process design solutions across a range of water industry projects, ensuring safety, compliance and efficiency at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality process design deliverables in line with safety and quality standards
- Develop efficient design solutions from scopes and site visits
- Lead and support junior engineers and designers
- Prepare risk assessments, technical reports and specifications
- Carry out:
- Mass balances
- Process sizing
- Hydraulic calculations
- Produce:
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
- Control philosophies
- Commissioning strategies
- Ensure compliance with water company and industry standards
- Manage and track design changes and project updates
- Estimate design hours and support project planning
- Represent designs at HAZOP, ALM, KM and technical review meetings
About You
- 10+ years’ experience in process design within the UK water industry
- Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and plant design
- Experience delivering process design on wastewater projects
- Comfortable working across clean and wastewater projects
- Degree, HND or equivalent industry experience
- Ideally Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
- Experience with HAZOP studies (Chair experience highly desirable)
- Full UK driving licence

- Sewage treatment upgrades
- Process improvements across UK water frameworks
Working Arrangements
- Office-based in Manchester
- Hybrid working available (1–3 days from home)
- Occasional site visits (expenses covered)
