Mechanical Machine Tool Fitter

Location: Coventry (with some overseas travel required)
Salary: £35,000 per annum with lots of Overtime and Benefits
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Working Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
Friday: 7:30am – 3:00pm

Our client is a well-established and highly respected manufacturer of precision machine tools, supplying high-spec equipment to a global customer base.


The Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Machine Tool Fitter with a strong background in precision assembly and machine builds. This is a hands-on role suited to someone confident working to tight tolerances on complex mechanical systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble precision machine tools from engineering and assembly drawings
  • Carry out mechanical fitting of complex components, including bearings, shafts, and alignments
  • Work to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
  • Perform hand scraping of mating surfaces to achieve accurate alignment
  • Complete drilling, tapping, and sub-assembly work
  • Cut and prepare sheet metal components where required
  • Install and assemble mechanical systems, including pipework and structural components
  • Support installation of pneumatic and hydraulic systems (mechanical side)
  • Use toolroom machinery (lathes, mills, grinders) where required
  • Safely operate lifting equipment including slings and overhead cranes
  • Support machine build, test, and occasional customer site work

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong background in mechanical fitting / machine tool assembly / heavy machinery builds
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings
  • Experience working with precision components and tight tolerances
  • Solid hands-on skills with mechanical tools and assembly techniques

Desirable

  • Experience with machine tool builds
  • Forklift truck licence
