An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering major infrastructure projects across the water and rail sectors.
This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer with a solid background in geotechnical and civil engineering design, who enjoys leading projects, mentoring junior staff, and working within highly regulated industries.
The Role
As a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing high-quality geotechnical and civil engineering design deliverables while ensuring compliance with industry, client, and company standards.
You will work on a variety of complex infrastructure projects and play a key role in supporting junior engineers and CAD technicians within the design team.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce geotechnical and civil engineering design deliverables to required safety and quality standards
- Prepare design calculations, technical drawings, specifications, and reports
- Produce Ground Investigation (GI) specifications, interpretive reports, and design reports
- Lead and contribute to design reviews, IDC/KM7 meetings, and technical presentations
- Direct and mentor CAD technicians, graduate engineers, and junior designers
- Ensure all design work complies with relevant technical, professional, and company standards
- Manage and record design changes throughout project delivery
- Estimate engineering hours and support project planning activities
- Follow formal engineering procedures and quality processes throughout all stages of design
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years’ experience within geotechnical and/or civil engineering design
- Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and design methodologies
- Experience producing GI specifications and interpretive/design reports
- Previous experience within regulated infrastructure sectors such as:
- Water
- Rail
- Utilities
- Highways
- Nuclear
- Oil & Gas
- Degree or HND qualified in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline
- Good IT and technical reporting skills
- Registered with a relevant professional body and working towards Chartership
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer status
- Experience working specifically within the water or rail industries
- Knowledge of engineering drawing practices
- Awareness of GI techniques, construction methods, and materials
