  • Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 5:15pm
  • Friday: 8:00am – 12:00pm (Enjoy an early finish every Friday!)

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced BOM & Item Master Controller to join a successful and expanding engineering manufacturer in Staffordshire.

This is a pivotal role within the business where you will take ownership of the company’s Bill of Materials (BOM) and Item Master data, ensuring the integrity of information within the ERP system to support Manufacturing, Procurement, Planning, Engineering and Finance.

You’ll become the go-to expert for product structures, engineering changes and master data, helping drive operational excellence, improved planning accuracy and manufacturing efficiency.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the governance, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Item Master and Bill of Materials within Microsoft Business Central.

Working closely with Engineering, Production, Procurement, Planning and Finance, you will ensure manufacturing data is accurate, controlled and supports efficient business operations.


Key Responsibilities

Item Master Management

  • Own and maintain Item Master data within Microsoft Business Central.
  • Create and maintain new items using company standards.
  • Manage:
    • Units of Measure
    • Planning parameters
    • Lead times
    • Costing data
    • Make/Buy settings
    • Lifecycle status
    • Order policies
  • Ensure complete alignment between Item Masters, BOMs, Routings and Procurement data.
  • Carry out data cleansing, audits and continuous improvements.

Bill of Materials (BOM) Control

  • Create and maintain accurate multi-level BOM structures.
  • Manage BOM revisions, versions and effectivity dates.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), Engineering Changes and End-of-Life products.
  • Maintain configurable items, kits, phantom assemblies and substitute components.
  • Continuously optimise BOM structures to improve manufacturing efficiency.

Engineering Change Control

  • Support Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes.
  • Assess material and planning impacts of engineering changes.
  • Implement ECNs within Business Central.
  • Communicate changes effectively across Production, Planning and Procurement.

Planning & MRP Support

  • Support and validate MRP outputs.
  • Investigate planning exceptions caused by inaccurate data.
  • Assist with material and capacity planning.
  • Ensure BOM and Item Master data supports efficient production scheduling.

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
    • Engineering
    • Production
    • Planning
    • Procurement
    • Quality
    • Finance
  • Champion best practice and improve company-wide data standards.
  • Help develop robust master data governance processes.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in one of the following:
    • BOM Control
    • Master Data
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Production Planning
  • Experience maintaining BOMs within an ERP/MRP system.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of MRP logic and planning parameters.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience using Microsoft Business Central.
  • Experience with configurable products or complex assemblies.
  • Knowledge of discrete manufacturing environments.
