Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for CNC machinery and machine tool design?

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected engineering business in Coventry, looking to strengthen their design team with a talented Mechanical Design Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to work on bespoke machine tool projects from concept through to manufacture, playing a key role in the development of high-precision engineering solutions.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the full design lifecycle, working closely with manufacturing, electrical design, suppliers and the wider engineering team to develop innovative and practical mechanical solutions.

You will be responsible for:

• Creating mechanical designs from concept through to detailed manufacturing drawings and BOMs
• Designing CNC machinery, grinding machines, tooling, fixtures and sub-assemblies
• Updating and improving existing designs to enhance quality, reduce costs and improve assembly efficiency
• Producing 3D CAD models and technical drawings using Autodesk Inventor
• Designing machine elements including gear systems, slideways, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Performing engineering calculations including inertia, torque and force calculations
• Ensuring designs comply with safety standards and customer requirements
• Preparing manufacturing and assembly documentation
• Liaising with shop floor teams, suppliers, electrical engineers and sales teams

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in machine tool or CNC machinery design
• Strong 3D CAD design experience, ideally using Autodesk Inventor
• Knowledge of FEA, GD&T and mechanical engineering principles
• Experience selecting motors and carrying out inertia/torque calculations
• HNC, HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a fast-paced engineering environment
• A proactive and detail-focused approach

Working Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
Friday: 8:00am – 3:30pm
