About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join a leading engineering consultancy delivering major infrastructure projects across the UK water sector.

This is a senior leadership role suited to a highly experienced Electrical Engineer with strong technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams on complex projects.

You will take ownership of electrical engineering delivery, provide technical leadership across projects, mentor engineering teams, and ensure all designs are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of electrical engineering design packages for major water infrastructure projects
  • Provide technical leadership and governance across LV, HV, ICA, and control system designs
  • Produce and review detailed electrical calculations, reports, specifications, and design drawings
  • Act as technical authority for electrical engineering within multidisciplinary project teams
  • Manage and coordinate internal design teams, subcontractors, and external consultants
  • Mentor and develop senior engineers, junior engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations, standards, and client specifications
  • Liaise directly with clients, suppliers, manufacturers, and project stakeholders
  • Lead technical design reviews, client presentations, and project meetings
  • Support bid submissions, project planning, and resource forecasting
  • Identify and manage technical risks and ensure design changes are properly implemented and controlled
  • Drive innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering best practice across the business

Essential Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working at equivalent level)
  • Extensive experience delivering electrical engineering designs within the UK water industry
  • Strong background in LV electrical design and power distribution systems
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering standards, regulations, and design practices
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical reports, specifications, and calculations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Commercial awareness and ability to support project delivery to programme and budget

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with HV, LV, ICA, control systems, and telemetry design
  • Knowledge of ATEX and hazardous area installations
  • Experience working on AMP water frameworks
  • Awareness of construction methods and installation practices
  • Experience managing subcontract design teams and external consultants
