The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for supporting manufacturing through the delivery of accurate production engineering information, electrical designs and technical expertise. You’ll play an integral role in New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring products are successfully introduced into production on time, to the required quality standards and within budget.

You’ll also be heavily involved in continuous improvement projects, working alongside manufacturing, quality and supply chain teams to improve efficiency, quality and productivity.


Key Responsibilities

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Lead the production engineering activities for new product introduction.
  • Produce accurate engineering documentation including Bills of Materials (BOMs), routing information and production data.
  • Ensure engineering information is available ahead of manufacturing start dates.
  • Support first article inspections (ISIR) and customer acceptance.

Production Engineering

  • Develop production-ready electrical and manufacturing solutions from customer requirements.
  • Produce and maintain accurate engineering documentation and item cards.
  • Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) initiatives.
  • Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
  • Support quotation activities with accurate engineering data.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives including:
    • Kaizen
    • 5S
    • Waste reduction
    • Value Added (VA) activities
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions (8D/CAR).

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards and customer specifications.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate production issues and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Maintain engineering data accuracy within company systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO Quality Systems and Health & Safety procedures.

Technical Support

  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to manufacturing.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Purchasing and other departments.
  • Support production teams with technical problem solving.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to apprentices and junior engineers.

Health & Safety

  • Assist with risk assessments and safe system of work development.
  • Support accident investigations where required.
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the business.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone with a strong technical background who enjoys improving manufacturing processes and solving engineering challenges.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience within a manufacturing or production engineering environment
  • Strong background in Electrical Panel Design and Production Engineering
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM)
  • Ability to produce and maintain:
    • Bills of Materials (BOMs)
    • Item Cards
    • Production documentation
  • Experience using Electrical CAD software
  • Knowledge of electrical design from concept through to production
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously

Technical Knowledge

Experience or understanding of:

  • UL508A
  • EN60204
  • EMC Directive
  • Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
  • Electrical control panel design
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Engineering Change Control

Qualifications

Ideally you’ll have:

  • HNC/HND or NVQ Level 4/5 in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 5 years’ post qualification experience in a manufacturing environment

Desirable:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Project Management qualification or practical experience
