Quantity Surveyor – Water Industry
Location: Manchester
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Working Pattern: Office-based, 5 days per week

The Opportunity
Starkey Recruitment Group is recruiting an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing engineering business based in Manchester.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor with experience in the water industry who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and technically focused engineering environment.
Working closely with Project Managers, Design Engineers and the wider commercial team, you will play an important role in the commercial management of projects from inception through to completion.
You will help maximise project profitability, control costs, manage contractual and commercial risk, and maintain strong working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
As Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, submitting and tracking applications for payment
- Monitoring certificates, invoices and payment schedules
- Preparing and managing Early Warning Notices (EWNs)
- Managing change requests, compensation events and project variations
- Assisting with project estimates, budgets and cost forecasts
- Preparing and presenting monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs)
- Monitoring project expenditure, purchase orders and overall commercial performance
- Reviewing contracts and ensuring contractual obligations are understood and met
- Supporting the review of contract terms and conditions
- Preparing subcontract documentation and assisting with subcontractor management
- Reviewing project programmes and monitoring commercial progress against delivery
- Building effective relationships with client commercial teams
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle
- Supporting the wider commercial team with day-to-day Quantity Surveying activities
About You
We are looking for someone who combines strong commercial awareness with a proactive and collaborative approach.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- At least 2 years’ Quantity Surveying experience within the water industry
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- A good working understanding of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts
- Good knowledge of commercial processes and project cost management
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- The confidence to work with project teams, clients and subcontractors
Desirable Experience
It would be advantageous if you also have:
- Experience working across different forms of contract
- Knowledge of contract change management and variation processes
- Experience preparing estimates and cost plans
- Experience with payment applications and certification
- Exposure to commercial negotiations
- Experience supporting projects through different stages of the project lifecycle
